Poem Pray Mountain Sang Hyang Widhi

Every month of Kasada, on the 14th day in Javanese calendar, there’s a ceremony held for the God Almighty and for the ancestors. The tales of Roro Anteng (the princess of Majapahit) and Joko Seger (the son of Brahmana). The beginning of the naming of Tengger people were taken from both of their last name. The couple, Rara Anteng and Jaka Seger, built a habitation and governed with the title “Purbowasesa Mangkurat Ing Tengger” which means “the wise ruler.”
Kasada ceremony beginned with the inauguration of the elder Tenggerese and the performance of rara anteng jaka seger dance in the open theater at Ngadisari village. At midnight, there’s an inauguration of the shamans and the blessing forthe villagers at the Mount of Bromo. The shamans are spiritual leaders for the Tenggerese, especially in marriage ceremonies. Before inaugurated, the shamans have to pass the test by memorizing and spelling the mantras. After the ceremony is completed, tenggerese people bring offerings which were taken from the foot of the mountain Bromo to its crater. They throw the offerings into the crater as a symbol of sacrifice from their ancestors. Near the crater, there is a lot of beggars and the Tenggerese people who live in the inland, who came from afar to the Bromo mountain and build their own agitation in order to get the thrown offerings.
The Tenggerese people throw the offerings which consisted of various fruits and livestocks. These offerings are considered as a symbol of gratitude for the God Almighty. The activities of inlanders Tenggerese can be seen from the night until the noon at Kasada Bromo.
